New technology continues entering the educational space resulting in traditional brick-and-mortar public schools undergoing significant change. The Wendl Foundation supports the goal of promoting digital inclusion for disadvantaged children living within the city of Saint Louis.
Too few parents can afford the computer hardware and monthly internet fees, enabling their child access to the ever-expanding array of
online educational resources. Providing computer hardware and information technology (IT) support to small private schools and the emerging
micro-schooling movement is consistent with closing the digital divide for children in the K-12 student age bracket.
The Wendl Foundation’s support of the virtual school movement has also the secondary objective of empowering children in
self-education. Due to time and resource constraints, a subject matter that a student might be interested in learning might not be taught in the classroom or only skimmed over. By providing computer hardware support, online learning is facilitated enabling children to educate themselves at their own natural pace.
